Evaluation - Question 4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Using media technologies during the construction  research, planning and evaluation stages was crucial and essential to the production of a real-media product. This is because without them non of the production process would be possible and also without them the standard of work would no reflect the ability to produce a replicate of a real media product.

Below is a presentation of how I used these technologies and why:

Evaluation - Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

What did I learn from audience feedback and how did I implement this feedback?

Drafting

After the completion of my drafting, gaining feedback was essential. This was because I needed to find out what draft was most popular with audiences and which would work most effectively. I received feedback such as:

Harry : 'My favourite is the design that incorporates the rose, this is because it portrays the genre and brings out the emotion in the colour red'

Feedback like this was crucial when completing my drafting as it gave my the ground work I needed and confidence within the draft to take it into development.

Development

Above is an example of how I used audience feedback to develop my work and learn the improvements that I could implement. This feedback gave me the ability to make developmental drafts and improve them to produce a final piece of a professional standard.

Audience feedback of the advertising campaign

To gain audience feedback one of the techniques used was the exhibition of the product at the schools annual creative arts evening. We took this opportunity to set up a camera and and a pod where we could gain audience feedback which we could then use to evaluate our video with.

The top two videos show the exhibition of the video and the bottom four are feedback which we received from the audience.

-----

The feedback gained was constructive an can be used to understand the effective shots within the production and what shots to use again in further work.

Evaluation - Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your main prodcut and ancillary texts?

To create an effective Advertisement campaign was essential to make sure the combination of products that were produced were linked by certain motifs, styles, band logos, elements of band conventions and mise-en-scene.

Ancillary Tasks

Below is a collage of the ancillary products I created and the elements that make a single product part a an combination of products that form a advertising campaign. Each element has been circled with a white circle:

The features which link of my text based products are things such as the bang logo which is used throughout. The fact that the album cover is placed on the album advert, the use of the rose and rose petals throughout, the band shots, the colour scheme used throughout the album and magazine advert, using a black background for the bands shots and having the same band members throughout.

How my video links to my ancillary tasks

In the first shot you can see that this links to my ancillary tasks due to use of the same band member playing the guitar showing the combination of the products making it a cross-media advertisement campaign.

The second shot shows the same characters which are evident in the ancillary tasks as well it links the products through the audience being able to match the products through the characters/band members.

The third shot shows the use of the red motif that is also shown through the ancillary tasks due to the red roses used. The red motif is used throughout the video and the whole cross-media advertising campaign.

The fourth shot shows the use of paper with the lyrics of the song on. This is also show on the album booklet and continue the linking of all products, making them not individual but a whole advertising campaign.

It is evidently shown throughout this research of my own products and video that they are linked and if were saw in isolation, an audience would be able to link them to the advertising campaign.

Evaluation - Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In this question I am going to show and explain how I have incorporated the common conventions of a music video, Digi pack and magazine advert.

Products are made to show repeated conventions so that they target and represent certain groups within public. Throughout my products I have tried to do so and this is how I have done it.

Developing Forms and Conventions of a digi pack and Magazine Advert

Below is a presentation on how my digi pack and magazine advert develops and conforms to he genre of indie-pop and conventions of digi packs in general. All of these conventions were ones that I learnt and developed when conducting my research early on with in the product. I also gained and understanding of these during my drafting on how to implement them.

I will compare my work to real media products:

Developing Forms and Conventions of a Music Video

Evaluation of Camera Shots

Shot 1:

The idea of this shot came from Ben Howard 'Only Love'. This was an inspirational aspect at it is a song from a similar genre. We developed this style of shot by taking the idea of a lone guitarist on the street busking and decided to add the shot of someone walking across placing money in a bag to show the emotion to the audience, that the main character is poor.

Shot 2:

The idea of this shot came from Plain White T's. This was an inspirational aspect at it is a song from a similar genre. We developed this style of shot by taking the idea of a lone guitarist on a stool and decided to make the shot of dark and with a lone light on the character to add the emotion of the shot and make the audience sad.

Shot 3:

The idea of this shot came from Alecia Keys. This was an inspirational aspect at it is a song from a similar genre. We developed this style of shot by taking the idea of new york and decided to make the London as from the shard as we would not have been able to travel to new york.

Evaluation of Editing

within this shot above a cross dissolve has been used of Alecia Keys. We also liked this effect and incorporated this into our video as it is an effective transition and entices the audience.

Narrative

The video follows conventions of the genre as the narrative follows the normal forms within the genre. This is because it shows the sadness of a relationship and the emotion through obscure shots. There is also shots of happiness and past times.

This video shows 'Wake me up when september ends'. These shots both show the hapiness of a girl and a boy together. Showing similar narrative throughout the genre videos.

Development - Developmental drafts for Magazine Advert

These are my developmental drafts which I had my peers and teachers review to gain feedback and improve them:

Developmental Draft:

Henry: I like the effects used on the pictures but I think the name of the band should be moved up and replace some of the dead space.

Mr White: I believe you should split the bottom section into two as this would follow conventions aswell as making it easy for the audience to digest.

Development - More Editing

we have made further improvements on our music video and have videoed more footage. There are still a few blank spaces which need to be filled. We went out and took more footage that would be effective in filling these blanks such as abstract shots of wildlife, footage of writing the lyrics and filming Delilah crying on her own by a tree. We have removed some bad band shots that didn't include enough movement and levels and replaced them with more effective shots. We also split up some footage that was too long, still using it however going back to it later on in the music video. Throughout the music video we have stuck to black and white on the narrative when they are apart from each other and colour for band shots and when they are together.
